Funding to support photography & documentary work around the world

Kelly McKinnell Memorial Award

The Kelly McKinnell Memorial Award of $1000, provides one undergraduate and one graduate student an opportunity to travel anywhere in the world to work on a photographic exploration and documentation project with the goal of promoting world cultural understanding or environmental awareness. The Award is open to all enrolled University of Michigan students. Projects, including a culminating exhibition, must be completed before graduation from the University.

The McKinnell Memorial Award has been established in memory of Art & Design alumna, Kelly McKinnell.  Kelly was the victim of a Chicago porch collapse in June 2003.  The Scholarship, that was founded by Kelly’s mother, Jean Ware, and Kelly’s close friend, Warren Zinn, ensures that Kelly’s passion for photography and travel live on.

*Note: although this award is administered through Art & Design, one does NOT need to be an A&D student in order to be eligible.
