Fulbright Information Session


      Fulbright Information Session

This information session will be conducted by Lora Seery, Program Manager at the Institute for International Education in New York, headquarters of the Fulbright program. She will give a special presentation on the Fulbright-Clinton Fellowship, which provides opportunities for U.S. citizens to serve in professional placements in a foreign government ministry or institution in partner governments.

If you're thinking about applying for a Fulbright grant and haven't already attended an information session, be aware that the final on-campus information session will take place TOMORROW (Wednesday, August 7th) at noon.

Description: The purpose of the Fulbright Program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and other countries.  The U.S. Department of State makes Fulbright fellowships available to approximately 1,700 U.S. students annually to study, conduct research, teach English, or train in the creative arts in more than 135 countries worldwide.  

At the information session, a U-M Fulbright Program Advisor will describe the application and selection process and provide suggestions for making your application more competitive.
Language requirement: Varies by country.
Eligibility Criteria: To apply for this program through the University of Michigan, applicants must (a) be U-M students, alumni or staff; (b) be U.S. citizens; (c) have completed an undergraduate degree by the beginning of the award; and (d) demonstrate the language skills necessary to complete the proposed project.
Deadline:  The U-M deadline is September 9, 2013 at noon.  
Advising:  Applicants should attend an information session and familiarize themselves with the Fulbright website, paying particular attention to the About, Countries, and Applicants sections.  After attending an information session applicants should meet individually with the appropriate Fulbright Program Advisor: 
  • Kelly Peckens (kpeckens@umich.edu) is the advisor for graduate students, professional school students, and all applicants in the arts. Open office hours for advising on a first come, first served basis from 1:30pm to 4:00pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (walk in, call in, or Google chat during those times).

More Fulbright Information Sessions


If you're graduating in 2013 and are thinking about applying for a Fulbright grant, we would strongly encourage you to attend one of the upcoming Fulbright Information Sessions.  While post-graduation plans may seem off in the distance, the Fulbright application deadline falls sooner than one might think (Monday, September 10th, 2012)!  Now is the perfect time to begin exploring the program.
