Presidential Scholarship Program (to Cairo, Egypt)


The American University in Cairo holds an annual scholarship program to study at their school called the Presidential Scholars Program.  The program is a one year fellowship for recent graduates from American undergraduate colleges and universities that combines work experience at an international university with the opportunity to learn Arabic and experience life in Cairo – the bustling, vibrant center of Middle Eastern culture.
Scholars are placed in key offices throughout the University’s administration and in the Desert Development Center, a non-profit research center dedicated to sustainable land development.
No prior experience in Arabic is required for the program, and students with little or no experience in the Middle East are especially encouraged to apply. The application for the coming year is due January 31, 2012 and applicants will be reviewed and short-listed by early March with final notifications sent by mid-March. Come learn about educational and professional opportunities in the MENA region in the context of the "Arab Spring." 


Matthew Kuehl is the Program Manager of Education Abroad for AMIDEAST based in Cairo, Egypt.  He has lived, worked, and studied in Yemen and Egypt for seven years, and traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and North Africa.  Matthew holds a B.A. in Arabic and a master's in International Law. 


AMIDEAST is a leading American non-profit organization engaged in international education, training and development activities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).  Founded in 1952, AMIDEAST's mission is to bridge the cultures and build understanding between the peoples of the U.S. and MENA.
