TONIGHT: Language: A Global Advantage in International Health & Development Work

Language: A Global Advantage in International Health & Development Work

Monday | October 27, 2014 | 6-8 PM
Palmer Commons 4th floorForum Hall

Local language proficiency is a tremendous advantage for anyone working in international health and development. Whether or not you have already reached proficiency, new learning tools are making it possible to build on what you have or even pick up a new language, even if regular classroom study is not an option. This panel brings together experienced health & development professionals, including UMSN Prof. Megan Eagle, to share how their ability to work in other languages has helped them collaborate with international colleagues, establish trust and communication with patients and research subjects, and gain a better understanding of the realities of working across cultures.

Co-sponsored by the School of Public Health and School of Nursing.

Featured Travel App: PackingPro

As much as we try to be super prepared before a trip, there always seems to be some last minute packing the night before a new adventure. And in that rush, it's almost inevitable that something will be forgotten as you try to recall that mental list you made while in class or at work. Luckily, there is a packing app that helps to take some of the preparation stress off travelers by allowing users to create packing lists and check items off as they are packed.

Packing Pro not only helps you to check off items on your list, but allows you to view sample packing lists built for common trip types. You can also save lists from previous trips for future reference.

This app is helpful for reminding you what not to forget, and also for organizing your trip before you go!
