UC 286: Engaged
Learning Abroad
A 1-credit reflective learning
seminar that supports integrative intercultural learning for UM students
currently studying abroad.
Class
sessions are held using Google Hangout and scheduled based on student
availability.
Request to register by February 3rd.
Course begins the week of February 10th, and will conclude by April 20th.
This course offered by the UM Center for Global and
Intercultural Study explores the processes of transitioning to a new cultural
context, adapting and engaging abroad.
Through guided reflections and a brief group project you will explore
strategies to engage locally—socially and academically—while learning how to
articulate what you are learning along the way. This course allows students to
reflect on their intercultural experiences while they are engaging in their
global program, while co-learning with students studying in other parts of the
world. Students will process lessons
learned and analyze their personal development from before, during and after
their programs. Developing and
articulating skills learned abroad will allow students to utilize individual
transformation for their personal, career and academic interests. Coursework is
conducted with online sharing platforms.
