Apply by Nov 15 (Undergraduate Students) | INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH EXPERIENCE IN CHILD HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

The Center for Human Growth & Development Announces the MHIRT Program & Calls for Applications from University of Michigan, Undergraduate Students

The Minority Health & Health Disparities International Research Training Program (MHIRT) is funded by the National Institutes of Health

Applications are now available for University of Michigan undergraduate students who are members of socially or economically disadvantaged groups traditionally underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research fields (African American, Hispanic American, American Indian, Native Alaskan, Pacific Island, persons with disabilities) as well as other undergraduates who have demonstrated interest and commitment to research in health inequalities.

Training awards are available for the purpose of encouraging students to pursue advanced degrees and research careers in the biomedical or behavioral sciences. The program seeks to broaden research efforts and scientific training to encompass international perspectives on problems that differentially affect poor and ethnic minority children in the U.S. and in developing countries. Students will participate in ongoing research projects related to child health inequalities in Chile, China, Mongolia, Kenya, Jamaica or Ghana.

Ten to fifteen positions will be fully-funded to cover 12-week placements during Summer, 2014.

Applications are available for undergraduates who have obtained sophomore or junior status. Senior status students are eligible, however, they may not receive bachelor's degree prior to 12/14, unless they will be entering graduate/medical school at the University of Michigan in Fall, 2014. Accepted candidates generally hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Financial support is provided for all trainees
Support includes up to $800/month stipend, up to $950/month living expenses, round trip travel to foreign site, and training-related expenses.

Application deadline for Summer, 2014 placements is November 15, 2013
