Every U-M student who is traveling abroad should be sure to purchase the proven U-M Travel Abroad Health Insurance--it costs only $1.25 per day (+ a $5 registration fee), provides $500,000 coverage, pays for medical care directly and provides access to quality medical care by doctors who speak English. It’s required for university-related travel and strongly recommended for personal/leisure travel. For more information, see: http://www.uhs.umich.edu/tai/
You’ll want to register your itinerary in the Travel Registry—that’s where you can purchase the Travel Abroad Health Insurance by clicking on the link on the last page:

If you are traveling for university-related purposes (i.e. study, research, internship, volunteering, conference, etc.), check out the University’s new policies: http://globalportal.umich.edu/travel-policy.php
Graduating and heading abroad? You’re still eligible for the health insurance, as long as you purchase it before September 1.
Feel free to let us know if you have any questions about this, or any other aspect related to going abroad!
It's certainly important to be properly insured when travelling, especially if you're making frequent trips abroad throughout the year. You may regard it as an added expense or a luxury but if you're ever in need of it, you're sure glad it is there.
