The University of New South Wales is a member of the prestigious Australian "Group of Eight," which is a coalition of leading Australian universities, intensive in research and comprehensive in general and professional education.  

Students earn 16-18 credits per term while choosing from a full range of course offerings from the university. University of Michigan students will take classes with Australian and International degree seeking students. "Enhanced" Ready, Set... Go Global! Session (Fri, April 13th @ 5pm)

Greetings, students!

Curious about studying abroad, but unsure how to proceed? Want to have a meaningful internship or volunteer experience while you study abroad?

The Center for Global and Intercultural Study will be holding an Enhanced Ready, Set... Go Global! presentation Friday, April 13th, at 5:00pm in room G168 Angell Hall. In this particular session, we will highlight both general info about studying abroad through CGIS and several CGIS study abroad programs in which internships and service are key components of the student experience.

Attendance at one Ready, Set... Go Global! (RSGG) session is mandatory for any CGIS study abroad application, and provides a great overview of our available programs. Since program deadlines are often months before program start dates, it's ideal to attend an RSGG as early as possible.

Program Announcement
 The Center for Japanese Studies is pleased to announce a new scholarship program to support undergraduate students who will participate in a study abroad program to Japan. Applications for CJS Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarships for undergraduate students participating in a study abroad program to Japan during Spring-Summer 2012 and Academic Year 2012-13 are now available. Applications are due March 15, 2012.


Eligibility
· Currently enrolled undergraduate students at the University of Michigan in any school or college are eligible.

· Students graduating in May 2012 or August 2012 are not eligible.

· Recipients must participate in a study abroad academic program that is sponsored by CGIS or another school or college of the University of Michigan and that results in academic credit. The recipient must travel to Japan with the program during Spring-Summer 2012, Fall 2012, and/or Winter 2013. Students who are enrolled in CGIS GCC or GIEU course during Winter 2012 and will be traveling to Japan with the course immediately after the end of the term are also eligible.

· Students who enroll in a qualified summer intensive Japanese language program located in Japan during Summer 2012 are also eligible. In order to qualify, a summer language program must teach the equivalent of one academic year of Japanese as taught at the University of Michigan; the recipient must enroll at the 2nd year level or above.

· Independent research, internships, and volunteer activities are not eligible.

· Students who are awarded the Summer Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship in Japanese are not eligible.

Scholarship Award
· Approximately 5-7 awards of up to $1,500 each will be made.

· Scholarship funds may only be used to cover expenses associated with the study abroad program participation, such as tuition, program fee, airfare, room, and board.

· Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit by the Center for Japanese Studies Admissions and Fellowships Committee.

· If you receive a need-based financial aid package for the study abroad program, the acceptance of this scholarship may result in an adjustment of your need-based financial aid package. Please consult the Office of Financial Aid if you have any questions.

Global Course Connections (GCC) & Ready Set Go…Global Information Session

on Friday, November 11^th at 5:00 pm in G127 Angell

What are GCC’s?

 Students participate in a field-based extension of selected U-M Courses. Participants enroll for winter term courses on campus and

then travel 10-28 days with their professor and classmates to field sites where students will put into practice what they have learned

in their course. Students receive 2 additional Winter term credits for their site work. See attached flyer for Winter 2012 GCC’s.

 Come meet with the GCC program advisor on November 11^th to learn how GCC’s work and how to apply for a program.  Students will also receive information about other global opportunities available through CGIS.

GIEU Symposium - 9/27; 4-6pm

Are you interested in an inexpensive, short-term experience abroad (or off-campus in the U.S.) as part of a diverse group of UM students, led by a U-M faculty member?

Participants in the spring/summer 2011 GIEU programs will be giving presentations about their experiences at the GIEU Symposium.

The “field sites” for 2012 will be announced in mid October; application deadline will be Nov. 7.  Undergraduates from all U-M Schools & Colleges are eligible.

St. Peter’s College Summer School Program at the University of Oxford

Eligibility

• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Completion of one full year of university-level study (allowances made based on credits earned)

Overview

St. Peter's College is part of the The University of Oxford system.  It is located in the city of Oxford, which is about 60 miles west (and a bit north) of London and has a population of approximately 160,000. The University of Oxford consists of 38 independent, self-governing colleges.

The St. Peter’s College Summer School Programme normally run for five weeks from July to August and is designed to offer students from North America (and elsewhere) direct experience of Oxford’s traditional approach to university education. The University of Oxford does not hold regular summer classes for its degree seeking students, so that students who participate in this program will not be taking classes along with other Oxford students.  However, the academic courses, designed and taught by Fellows and Lecturers of the College and the wider university with overseas students in mind, have a British and European focus.

Courses and Credits

University of Michigan students apply for one of three components: Environmental Studies, Medieval Studies, or English Literature. Each component has several options from which students choose. Please see the St. Peter's Summer School Programme website (listed below under *Additional Resources* for more information on the tutorial system, the academic experience and the different components and their options.

Please note: The 4-day field excursion is required for all U-M students, whether in the Environmental Studies, Medieval Studies, or Literature components. Students in the Environmental Studies course will receive 2 credits for this excursion. Students in the Medieval or Literature components have the option of completing 2 credits for the excursion, but are not required to do so.
